What counts as a good score?
- Under 18 — traditionally flagged for caution and deeper analysis.
- 18–24 — acceptable; an average, workable match.
- 25–32 — good to very good.
- 33–36 — rare and considered excellent.
Two big caveats. First, a single koota can drag a genuinely happy pairing down — many astrologers overrule a low Bhakoot or Nadi score when the rest of the charts support each other. Second, gun milan compares moon positions only; a full compatibility reading also weighs Venus, Mars and the 7th house of both charts.
Mangal dosha, briefly
If Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of a chart, that person is called manglik. Tradition reads this as potential friction in marriage. It's also widely held to be neutralised when both partners are manglik, after a certain age, or by counterbalancing placements — so treat it as one input, never a verdict.
